Frequently Asked Questions.

Booking:

  • How do I book a consult?

Choose the type of consult you need, pick a day and time, and see which doctors are free at that moment — or start from a doctor’s profile and pick from their times. Enter your details, answer a few short questions from the doctor, and pay. The whole thing takes about two minutes.

  • Can I pick my own doctor?

Yes. Every doctor is listed with their photo, qualifications, HPCSA number and price. Book directly with the one you want, or pick a time first and choose from whoever is free.

  • Can I cancel or reschedule?

Yes — your confirmation email has a manage link where you can cancel or move your booking to another open time. If you cancel, refunds are only issued in limited circumstances (see our refund policy below).

  • Is there an age limit?

Consults are for adults 18 and over. Bookings for children are not available yet.

Consults:

  • How does the video consult work?

Your confirmation email carries a secure video link and a calendar invite. At your booked time, open the link on any device with a camera — there is no app to install.

  • Can the doctor prescribe medication or write a sick note?

Yes, where clinically appropriate. Scripts, sick notes and referral letters are emailed to you after the consult. Some medicines legally require a physical examination and cannot be prescribed online.

  • What if I have an emergency?

Health Near Me is not an emergency service. If someone is seriously ill or injured, call 10177 (ambulance) or 112 from a cell phone immediately.

Payments and refunds:

  • How do I pay?

Securely online by card or instant EFT through Paystack when you book. Your booking confirms the moment payment goes through.

  • What does a consult cost?

Each doctor sets their own price and you see it before you book — nothing is added at checkout. Consults currently start at R150.

  • Can I claim from medical aid?

After your consult you receive a detailed invoice with the doctor’s practice details, which you can submit to your medical aid. Whether they reimburse depends on your plan — check with your scheme.

  • What is the refund policy?

Refunds are issued only in limited circumstances — a technical failure that prevented the consultation, a cancellation by the practitioner, or a duplicate payment. Once approved, a refund takes 7–10 business days to reflect, depending on your bank. See our terms for the full policy.
